What should you do tonight? The Socialer wants to answer that question for you.
Originally founded by two childhood best friends who grew up in Southern California, The Socialer is a social network mashed up with a local events calendar. The site, which also highlights concert venues, restaurants and bars, tells you where its users are hanging out on any given night.
Cofounder Trevor Tait, 24, says he and his cofounder Ray Rangel, 25, thought Philly was the perfect place to start the company because of its growing community of young professionals. Many of those people are new to Philly and don’t have a network from college to tap into, Tait says. He hopes The Socialer can help connect young people across the city.
Tait ended up in Philly after graduating from Vanderbilt because he got a job as an engineer. Six months ago, he quit to pursue Socialer full time.
The Philly tech scene has been useful in growing the business, Tait says, especially because of its wealth of talent. The team, currently working in Center City, recently added on another co-founder, a Penn senior named Eric O’Brien.
