When 3rd Ward maker space closed, the plan for a large-scale test kitchen fizzled. But now, the owner of 1000 Dean Street is hoping to revive the idea, according to DNAInfo.
Food entrepreneurs appear hungry (yup, that’s a pun) for more production space and the vacated property wants tenants. Other parts of the Crown Heights building, which housed 3rd Ward for seven years, will be open for business come February.
Local leaders hope that whatever gets made there means work for community members:
Regardless of who wins the RFP for the culinary incubator, Community Board 8 hopes that the new test kitchen will hire locally and serve the community.
“3rd Ward was interesting and exciting, but it was everybody else coming to Crown Heights,” said Atim Oton, chair of Community Board 8’s Economic Development Committee. “There’s nothing wrong with that concept, it’s an investment, but we need both.”
