Eyebeam will move to Bushwick, its director Roddy Schrock announced in a Medium post.
The organization, which funds residencies for artists working in the space where art and technology meet, has been in a space in Sunset Park’s Industry City for the last three years.
“We will have a dedicated storefront space that will house both the residency work areas as well as act as a public space for events,” Schrock wrote of the new Bushwick space. “We imagine it to be a very active space with regular panels and discussions, as well as presentations by residents and alumni — a group of the most exciting thinkers and makers in the world.”
The move will be an upgrade for the org, says Ramsey Nasser, a former Eyebeam fellow and current member of its advisory board.
“Moving to Bushwick is super exciting because it re-situates Eyebeam in an artistic environment and enables the organization to more easily host events,” Ramsey wrote in an email. “Being on the ground floor of a heavily foot-trafficked area is crucial. We consistently hosted events in the Sunset Park space, for sure, but attendees had to considerably opt in to a journey which was off the beaten path. Being on the ground floor again means random foot traffic and wanderers-in can be a part of Eyebeam’s audience again, and some of my best experiences were with members of the public who ‘accidentally’ walked in to Eyebeam during a show and had their minds blown.”
We contacted Schrock to find out where exactly in Bushwick they’re moving and will update when we find out.
Eyebeam will host a housewarming party for its new space Nov. 30 in Bushwick.
