Dumbo’s Blue Chalk Media adds a second season to its New York Times content partnership

Dumbo's Blue Chalk Media is defining a leadership role for itself in the journalistic filmmaking landscape.

Blue Chalk Media has upped its commitment to the New York Times‘s new video based venture. “The Times originally hired us to produce one six-part series. Since then, they’ve hired us to produce a second six-part series. The first will be released this fall,” Lisa Jamhoury, a digital strategist at the company told us, via email.

Times Video is a new venture by the New York Times, and it has selected Dumbo’s Blue Chalk Media to serve as one of its content providers, which was originally announced in a blog post from May:

Blue Chalk is thrilled to announce we are one of the original production companies working with The New York Times to produce content for the hub. Associate producer Gabriela Arp will be working alongside our team for spring and summer 2014 on the project.

We wish we could tell you more about the content now, but, alas, you’ll have to keep an eye out for news about the collaboration in the coming months.

The second season is a recent development.

The company also just launched a new journal about the industry of visual storytelling called Ochre. The plan is to publish two stories each month, digitally. There are two stories up so far:

Journals have come to be an important way to establish a brand as a thought leader. For example, Phin Barnes discussed launching a journal from First Round Capital’s offices at a local meetup.
