The New York Times was all over the Wharton Business Plan Competition this year. The Old Gray Lady said that life sciences were all the rage, though business services company Cortical Concepts won the $20,000 grand prize. As we know, $20,000 to a Wharton student is like $100 to the rest of us.
DreamIt Ventures is a week away from its “kickoff weekend.” But a few lawyer-types are jumping the gun tonight with the Law Firm Kickoff. The free event plans to explore how law firms will work with the incubated companies.

MIGHT BE WORTH YOUR TIME

According to the city’s WordPress blog, Philadelphia has been awarded a $25 million grant to retrofit city buildings to be more energy efficient. Two pieces of news here: the grant, and the fact that the city has a WordPress blog.
According to Citybizlist, BioNanomatrix has raised nearly $800,000. The company, based in the University City Science Center, received seed and Series A funding from Ben Franklin Technology Partners. According to the Form D filing (the SEC form that sometimes is filed to announce private equity) the company plans on raising as much as $4 million. See our previous coverage of BioNanomatrix.
