UD-Lewes now launching underwater robots from new lab

The University of Delaware uses robots in a number of departments: child development, disaster response, cybersecurity and, now, underwater systems.
University officials cut the ribbon this week on the new Robotic Discovery Laboratories at UD’s Hugh R. Sharp campus in Lewes.
The lab houses seven unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and connects the research of multiple faculty members. The underwater robots can map, measure, record video and capture photos and sonar images of the ocean floor.
With the new lab, the university hopes to boost its programs in environmental technology and underwater robotics.
