Over the weekend, collegiate esports teams from 16 universities across the state competed in the first collegiate esports tournament in Pennsylvania: the PA Cup, organized by Harrisburg University.
HU Storm, the esports team from Harrisburg University, claimed the top spot in two of the three video game titles in play: League of Legends and Overwatch. Drexel University’s team also claimed a trophy by beating out all other competitors in the Hearthstone tournament.
“Keeping two of the PA Cup trophies in Harrisburg is awesome for the team and the university as the tournament host,” said in an email Vincent “Vinpin” DiGiacomo, a sophomore on Harrisburg University Storm Overwatch team who hails from Chester County. “We competed against some of the largest schools in the state and to see our talent recognized at this level was really encouraging as we continue on with our regular season.”
After the dust has settled from a weekend of fierce competition we crowned 3 PA Cup champions. Good games were played all around by every team that signed up. Introducing your PA Cup Champions!

“This was a one-of-a-kind tournament experience and to have teams from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and cities in between join in the PA Cup tournament is something to celebrate,” said Chad Smeltz, director of Esports at Harrisburg University.
