One student startup will get to pitch to First Round Capital, but first that founder has to win Switch Philly.
Five startups with college founders will demo during our annual Switch Philly judged competition during Philly Tech Week presented by AT&T next Wednesday, April 9, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at First Round Capital’s headquarters.
They’ll pitch to a lineup of judges that includes DreamIt Ventures managing partner Karen Griffith Gryga and Independence Blue Cross‘s Director of Innovation Tom Olenzak. The winning prize pack also includes a 90-minute pitch session at Osage Partners and three months of free space at Venturef0rth.
RSVPThese are the competing startups:
- Milkcrate, Morgan Berman, Philadelphia University: Milkcrate aims to be a sustainable Yelp.
- Purple Cloud Technologies, Adria Bagdonavicius, Drexel University: this startup offers a hotel management mobile app that’s headquartered at the Baiada Institute.
- Drug Verifier, Titi Oshinaya, Wharton: this mobile app, which was one of Penn’s AppItUp challenge winners, tells you if the medicine you have is genuine or counterfeit.
- SavySwap, Chalmers Brown, Rutgers: this trading marketplace is finishing a stint at San Francisco accelerator Tumml
- Wishbox, Vikram Madan, Wharton: This app, which was also one of Penn’s AppItUp challenge winners, lets users create a wishlist as they’re shopping by scanning barcodes.
Switch Philly takes on a different theme each year. Last year had an edtech focus and the year before that was mobile.
