AOL founder and Revolution VC Steve Case wants to invest in startups outside of New York City and San Francisco.
The venture capitalist who popularized the term “rise of the rest” is going on a roadshow to find startups outside traditional tech scenes. It’s his fourth Rise of the Rest tour.
He’s coming to Philly on Sept. 29 and will be hosting a pitch competition. $100,000 is on the line. (We have to ask: Can someone invent a better way to do this kind of thing? The words “pitch competition” make our eyes glaze over.)
Apply to pitch by Sept. 13
Case will tour Philly’s tech hubs, like N3rd Street, the Navy Yard and University City while he’s here, said Anthony Stipa, who’s helping get the word out. He’s also going to host a happy hour. Archna Sahay, the city’s director of entrepreneurial engagement, is organizing the tour locally.
Last fall, we had Case on the Technical.ly Podcast to talk about the rise of the rest.
