We keep coming across ripples of Steve Goodman’s influence across the Philly startup realm.

In an email from attorney Steve Rosard, who heads up Drexel University’s Entrepreneurial Law Clinic (ELC), he notes that four of the lawyers on our list of Goodmanesque attorneys are also part of the Clinic’s board of advisors. Also, three of them former students of the ELC. “I was also inspired by Steve throughout my career,” Rosard said.

The timely hook to his email was the announcement that the application process to the ELC, which offers legal counsel at no cost, is now live. Startups past the “idea stage” with more than one founder and without significant outside funding are encouraged to apply by Aug. 20.

Apply by Aug. 20

“We usually get at least two to three times as many applications as we can accept,” Rosard said, so if you’re interested you better hustle.

Law students in the Clinic can offer startups help with incorporations, LLCs, founders agreements including equity issuances, IP assignment agreements, contracts, employment issues and more. No securities offerings with outside investors or patent filings, though.

A few startups that have applied and landed help with the Clinic in past cohorts are Orai, Twine Labs, MilkCrate and Tassl.

“Our clients are always happy with the level of service we provide,” Rosard said. “Our student lawyers don’t just deliver legal documents, they educate our clients about the legal issues involved.”
