The next time hunger strikes in a rideshare, there may be an option to buy a snack.
Cargo, a New York–based startup that provides Uber, Lyft and other ridesharing drivers with kiosks to sell snacks and other accessories, recently expanded to Baltimore amid a nationwide expansion planned this year.
The service presents a box with snacks like candy and chips, as well as protein bars, breath mints, hangover cures and emergency phone chargers. Passengers can get access by scanning a QR code then going to the Cargo website on their phones.

It’s designed to be a moneymaker for drivers. Drivers sign up independently with Cargo from the ridesharing services themselves. Through Cargo, drivers can set up the kits with products pre-stocked for free. Some of the items are samples, according to the company. Drivers then earn commission on both sample and paid items.
After raising $5.5 million, the company has a goal of reaching 20,000 vehicles by the end of the year. Along with New York, it’s also available in D.C., Boston, Chicago and Minneapolis.
