Arlington, Va.–based Stardog, a venture-backed enterprise software company and provider of Enterprise Knowledge Graph tech, has been selected by the City of San Francisco to participate in a Startup in Residence program (STIR).
During the 16-week remote program, startups will be connected with government agencies to co-develop tech solutions for government challenges. Nearly 700 startups vied for a chance to work with 22 government agencies, a press release states, but only 39 were selected. Stardog will focus on volunteering with San Francisco city and county to implement data to ensure underserved residents are being hired within the contractor community.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with San Francisco on these important problems,” Michael Sachse, CEO of Stardog said in a statement. “Every city has tremendous data assets, and every city struggles to get value from them. We’re excited to work with San Francisco to help connect data for these crucial applications.”
Stardog raise a $6 million Series A funding round in 2017 before increasing their Series A funding to $9 million, by adding $3 million in 2018, led by New York City-based venture capital firm Tenfore Holdings.
The STIR program launched in 2018 in 11 cities across the United States, and has worked with nearly 100 startups. After conducting research, designing, building and testing new tech solutions, startups have the opportunity to take their partnership with these government agencies to contract to continue their work.
“The Startup in Residence program is a model for civic innovation and national collaboration,” Jay Nath, former CIO for San Francisco and executive director for City Innovate, said in statement. “This program is a unique opportunity for government agencies and startups to think creatively about how we can all work together to modernize government to benefit residents.”
