7 clusters of Philly tech activity, mapped

Thanks to a partnership with Chevrolet, we've mapped the city's tech hubs.

What are we noticing about the technology community in 2015?

A bird’s-eye view reveals a thriving new cluster of tech firms on Frankford Avenue, even more activity on N3rd Street, a move from the University of Pennsylvania across the river and vertical growth in Center City.

When a Philadelphian asks questions about someone or something, it’s often through the lens of place: “What neighborhood are you in,” we might ask of a new business, or a new friend. It’s only natural that we geek out about dots on maps and drone aerials.

At this year’s Philly Tech Week 2015 presented by Comcast, we wanted to focus even more on that place-making. Thanks to Chevrolet, Philly Tech Week’s Innovation Mapped sponsor, you’ll see every one of the week’s 150+ events mapped on the front page of phillytechweek.com — events in many of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods and suburban communities. A big shoutout to Jarvus Innovations for making that happen.

We’ve also produced a limited-edition print, pictured above, of some of the city’s innovation clusters with the help of Chevy. We’re grateful for Leslie Zacharkow’s clean illustration showing off more than 45+ tech organizations in a half-dozen neighborhoods that are doing impressive work. You can find the illustration in the Philly Tech Week program and magazine and copies of it at the Innovation Mapped party during Philly Tech Week.

Drop us a line if you think you should be included in the next version of the map — we’ll always be dedicated to better understanding this city’s innovation community.
