Gabe’s department store is coming to Prices Corner in June. The fashion and home goods retailer will replace Rugged Warehouse, which closed on April 24.
There are currently 64 Gabe’s stores across 11 states. This will be the second to open in Delaware, with the first opening in Bear, in 2015.
Both Gabe’s and Rugged Warehouse are owned by parent company Gabriel Brothers, the Morgantown, W.Va.-based company that announced earlier this month that several area Rugged Warehouse locations will be converting to Gabe’s stores.
Although both stores are performing well, Gabe’s carries a more diverse mix of merchandise, which is appealing to consumers, according to store executives.
Along with clothing and accessories, the new Wilmington location will also sell pet supplies, home décor, toys and electronics.
While many of the Rugged Warehouse staff will be given roles at Gabe’s, the bigger location will mean more job opportunities for residents. Two weeks ago, store executives held a hiring event in order to recruit new team members. They interviewed candidates for all positions, including management roles.
A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new store will be held on June 3. During the event, customers will have a chance to win more than $1,000 in gift cards.
