Calling all entrepreneurs! Are you ready to swim with the sharks?
Starting Aug. 1, the Emerging Enterprise Center will be accepting submissions for its fifth annual “Swim with the Sharks” video pitch contest. This year, the stakes are higher than ever, contestants can win a prize package worth $20,000.
Any company with a Delaware business license, as well as businesses in Cecil County, Md., and Southern Pennsylvania, are eligible for the contest. There’s just one catch — all companies must have launched within the last three years.
Entries must be submitted before 4 p.m. on Aug. 28.

After participants upload a three-minute video telling an interesting story about their company and how they plan to use the prize, three finalists will be invited to pitch live during EEC’s annual luncheon on Sept. 22. A panel of judges will then decide on a grand prize winner, who will receive $11,500 in cash, a one-year membership in the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, a marketing package and a six-month membership in the EEC Virtual Incubator Program.
In addition to the grand prize winner, attendees will also choose a finalist to win the popular vote and an award of $1,000.
Past winners include companies such as Carvertise and Vibrating Therapeutic Apparel (which recently rebranded as TheraV).
For those who need a little inspiration before making their video, the EEC will be offering two workshops on pitching and marketing. In the meantime, check out the five reasons why you should use video in your marketing, according to Erica Crell, EEC Program Support Coordinator.
