Jon Gosier is part of the team behind news site Ebola Deeply

The D8A cofounder is trying to fight Ebola misinformation both in West Africa and the U.S.

A new project from Jon Gosier attempts to tell the story of the current Ebola outbreak more accurately.

“We’re dealing with two different sides of the world, but similarly high levels of ignorance,” the D8A cofounder said in an interview with TED. “On one hand, we have a public health information crisis. On the other hand, I would argue, we have an uninformed journalist problem. Ebola Deeply is our attempt at a solution for both.”

Ebola Deeply aggregates news stories, social media accounts, data and academic articles on the issue.

It’s a project founded by CNN anchorwoman Isha Sesay and Lara Setrakian, founder of NYC news startup News Deeply (the platform that Ebola Deeply is built on). Gosier and his D8A cofounder Bahiyah Robinson, along with others, are also on the team. Gosier has worked on a handful of Africa-focused tech projects like communications tool Abayima and crisis mapping tool Ushahidi.

He’s also a lead investor behind Third Cohort, a new angel fund.

D8A, Gosier’s data science startup, is providing a mobile platform for broadcasting public health data to citizens in the affected African countries, Gosier wrote in an email.

Ebola Deeply reminds us of WarOnFerguson, the news aggregation project run by Philly entrepreneurs Amy Hoy and Thomas Fuchs. Activity on the tool has slowed since early September.
