The cofounders of ClassTracks, the language learning tool, will be spending their summer in Kansas City.
ClassTracks has been accepted to the Lean Lab fellowship in Kansas City, Mo. Cofounders Lida Zlatic and Thierry Uwilingiyimana will spend four weeks at the Lean Lab and receive $10,000 with the chance at another $25,000 at the end of the program.
Zlatic said she is looking forward to the mentoring and possible partnerships available through the fellowship. ClassTracks is one of 5 companies accepted into the program this summer.
“These five education companies come to Kansas City to work on testing their riskiest assumptions and then they have partnerships with local school districts as well as investors,” Zlatic said. “They are trying to get each of the five companies at least one pilot in one of the school districts around Kansas City.”
A pilot program in KC means the Baltimore-born company won’t be able to launch in its home city.
“I wish we could launch our product in Baltimore but Baltimore City is not as interested in partnering with really new companies so we’re going out there and by the end of the program we’ll have revenue,” Zlatic said.
(It’s not the first Charm City startup to do a stint in Missouri. Sickweather did an accelerator program there in 2014.)
ClassTracks is still in beta and has not been charging for its product. The company is working on a pricing model that will be unveiled later this summer.
It’s going to be a busy summer for the ClassTracks team. They are in the middle of a seed round and will be adding two Venture for America fellows to the company in August, Zlatic said.
