Last year's event drew 800 girls.

An symposium happening next month in Chester County hopes to show girls what a career in STEM might look like.

Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) — happening March 17 at Phoenixville Area Middle School — is organized by Innovative Technology Action Group (ITAG), a project of the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC).

“GETT is an interactive, full-day program for girls in grades 5th through 10th, their parents and educators from all across the Greater Delaware Valley Area (including Philadelphia) to meet women role models and participate in STEM hands-on activities,” said organizer Nancy Kunkle, project director at CCEDC.

Get tickets

Kunkle said the event was free, in order to insure that ticket costs don’t “eliminate any group of students.” For students coming from schools outside the Phoenixville area, transportation will be provided. Mentors include reps from Vanguard, Unisys, Cerner, Dell Boomi and TechGirlz.

“Over 1,000 people, including over 800 girls, attended last year’s event and we expect the 2018 GETT Expo to be even bigger,” Kunkle said.
