This list started in February 2020 as a roundup for Black History Month. Since then, and with the help of social media sharing (big thanks to Newark graphic designer Annie Estes for creating companion social media-friendly graphics), it has nearly doubled in size, and is still growing — now beyond 100. This list is focused on consumer-facing businesses, whether it’s the food or fashion industries or business services and technology.

We know there are still more Black-owned business in the state! If we missed yours, email me at holly@technical.ly.

Update: More businesses have been added to this list. (04/12/21, 12:03 p.m.); headline and intro have been updated (7/1/20, 2:47 p.m.).
