The judges at South by Southwest have spoken: out of the 48 companies that pitched at the Austin tech conference, Philly’s BioBots was the most innovative.
Founded by a trio of Penn students, BioBots builds 3D printers that use cells to build living tissue and organs. The startup, headquartered at Washington Avenue’s NextFab, won $1,000 Sunday night. It was one of three startups (out of eight in the digital health category) that made it to the second round of pitching. The startup ultimately lost to a German mobile app called Tinnitracks that treats ringing in the ears.
BioBots is currently in the midst of raising a seed round.
