1776 announced Thursday a new partnership with Precision Strategies, a consulting firm based in D.C. and New York that’s founded by three top strategists from the Obama 2012 campaign.
Entrepreneurs might be smart cookies, said 1776 cofounder Donna Harris, but often “they don’t know how to get their stories out there.”
Campaigns are very much like startups. It's the same fast-paced, innovative atmosphere.
And trying to break out in 1776’s four pillar industries (education, health, energy and smart cities) presents its own set of challenges.
“We needed somebody who really understands that our startups are trying to tackle government-related industries,” said Harris.
Who better than a team of strategists who helped President Obama win reelection?
“Campaigns are very much like startups,” said Precision Strategies cofounder Stephanie Cutter. “It’s the same fast-paced, innovative atmosphere.”
The partnership will not politicize the members of 1776, Harris said, because for-profit “startups are non-partisan.”
The partnership with Precision Strategies will equip members with “the tools and content and templates they need to understand the powers of communication, media engagement and digital strategy,” said Harris.
Successful startups that are in the process of hitting scale will get additional access to Precision Strategies consultants, she said.
