“No one’s doing this data stuff down south. There’s really no one there.”
That’s what Ryan Harrington, Open Data Delaware co-organizer, told us a week ago during a one-on-one discussion.
Open Data Delaware hosts weekly Code & Coffee meetups in the Brandywine Hundred Library. Attendance scales up and down on a week-by-week basis, but it’s not odd to see something like 30 people in attendance.
Harrington and Open Data Delaware want that same thing down south.
“My goal, and it seems like an easy win, is to expand the Code & Coffees to a satellite in southern Delaware. We’d have a parallel group that’s doing the exact same thing. They’d also be part of Open Data Delaware, also Saturday mornings at 10, also in a library.”
“We’d find one or two people to run it, and it’d be essentially something like Open Data Delaware South. In the next year, I want that to happen. I want to prove that these northern ones work.”
Harrington told us that, right now, they’re “Open Data Delaware, but a lot of the stuff we do is more like Open Data New Castle County.” He wants to fix that. That means getting Open Data South up and running by 2018.
