After entrepreneur Dillon Myers moved back to Philly, the idea of rehashing the Columbus, Ohio-based hackathon called GiveBackHack kept popping up in his head.
While the Columbus event is now led by Suzanne Bureau, the Philly-based Myers will finally see the impact-focused weekend hackathon come true at Azavea’s HQ on Oct. 13.
“The end goal is creating social enterprises from the weekend, joining passionate people from the nonprofit sector with people from tech who can rapidly prototype,” Myers said.
The end goal is have somewhere between 60 and 100 people join the event and helping “a few” social enterprises launch. The event will provide the top enterprise with seed money in the $1,000 range.
“It’s a small but crucial amount in the beginning, because it allows companies to host a site and incorporate,” Myers said.

The judges panel, which will decide which enterprises get funded but also mentor the groups, features some familiar names:
