On March 14, Technical.ly will be hosting its annual tech jobs fair NET/WORK in the heart of Baltimore’s urban center, at the University of Baltimore’s Career & Internship Center (CIC).

Technical.ly has hosted the event in several venues in Baltimore over the years, but for the first time, it’s working with the University of Baltimore to center the event closer to the vibrant student community.

As the Career & Internship Center director, Technical.ly asked me to share why this is such an important change, and how companies and jobseekers can benefit by attending.

#1: It’s important we grow relationships with local tech employers.

As an anchor institution in the city of Baltimore, the UB Career & Internship Center seeks to build talent pipelines between local employers and its students, many of whom seek to live and work in the Baltimore metro area after graduation. Technical.ly’s NET/WORK 2019 event connects local employers to emerging and experienced talent in engineering, UX and design, marketing and social media, and all the roles relevant to a growing digital workforce. Growing relationships with local employers and helping students connect with the innovation community is vital to the Baltimore labor market.

#2: Our students are being trained with cutting-edge technology and business ideas.

Employer relations and outreach is central to the mission of the UB Career & Internship Center, which has intentionally partnered with Technical.ly in various ways to help create synergy between industry and higher education. Together Technical.ly and UB are helping local employers from the innovation community amplify their presence in the city, especially with college level talent.  Our students are graduating from programs entirely focused on engineering, cybersecurity, data science, systems architecture, user experience and design, gaming and more. NET/WORK provides an opportunity for employers to promote their company and for students in related academic programs to display their skills.

#3: We believe events like NET/WORK are the future of Baltimore.

As Baltimore changes, grows and improves, UB is front and center displaying a commitment to building a better Baltimore. Helping to pipeline students into the local workforce through employer engagement is just one way UB seeks to engage the community. When college students are exposed to local companies, there is a stronger chance that they will stay in Baltimore after graduation, bringing new energy to companies and contributing to the greater economy. For companies in the innovation sector, events such as NET/WORK provide an opportunity to build visibility with college level talent who are actively seeking internships and full-time employment – a win for students, local employers, colleges and the Baltimore metro area community.
