There’s no set roadmap to a career in technology, or starting a company.
The latest example comes in this week’s episode of DC Tech Stories, the podcast featuring conversations with D.C. technical workers and community leaders.
Host Jessica Bell talks to Roselle Safran about how she went from studying civil engineering as an undergraduate to becoming a cybersecurity expert. In the Season 2 episode, titled “The Winding Path,” Safran discusses how she entered cybersecurity through forensics, the security landscape and balancing career and life with plenty of travel.
Here are Bell’s thoughts on the interview:
“Roselle was a really interesting interview for me. She came to tech from a different path than most, something which as a self taught technologist with NO interest in computers originally, I identified with. For me, and I have a hunch others, it is so uplifting to see people who don’t have the background of a traditional computer science background really thriving, especially in highly technical roles – it gives me a boost to keep going even when my imposter syndrome starts to get the best of me. Plus she is so well traveled and has stories from all over the world! #jealous!!”
