The Walters Art Museum invited computer programmers and designers into the museum in summer 2012 for a weekend-long hackathon. It’s happening again.
Art Bytes was the museum’s first foray into the sometimes confusing task of marrying new technology with a venue that doesn’t necessarily rely on the power of apps to to convince people why art is important.
Eight projects came from that weekend, including a 3D-printing effort that made miniature models of the museum’s artwork and the Frame app, which has users take photos of artwork in order for the pieces to be placed in their historical context, with the literature, inventions, people and milestones from the time period during which the art was made.
Read about the eight projects from Art Bytes 2012.
Art Bytes returns in 2014 from Jan. 24 through Jan. 26. More information is available on the Walters’ website.
