TedxWilmington returns in April, with a diverse group of speakers from all over the globe

With local personalities and international influencers, this year’s edition features 18 unique presentations at Theatre N.

In 2020, TEDxWilmington entered a new era.

Dr. Dan Young, then the director of the Goldey-Beacom College’s Doctor of Business Administration program and now cofounder of Leadership Excellence Academy for Nonprofits, used his experience as organizer of several other TEDx events to convince the mothership that the Wilmington franchise, which had been unlicensed since 2018, should be re-released.

The first edition under Young’s leadership was in April 2021 at Theatre N, a hybrid event called “The Awakening of TEDxWilmington.”

Now, three years later, the daylong gathering is returning to Theatre N on April 27. This year’s TEDxWilmington has a theme of “Currency” and features 18 speakers from Delaware and beyond.

“There will be a chance to hear talks about things that come from relatively far away, and also from our backyard,” Nathalie Antonov, who leads marketing for the volunteer-run event, told Technical.ly.

The diverse set of speakers include former Miami Dolphins lineman Jonathan Martin; Janet Hogan, Australian entrepreneur and founder of The 5th Door self discovery program; and NYCE Group CEO and former NuvoTV host Philip Michael.

Locally familiar faces include Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce President Ayanna Khan, DETV Executive Director Ivan Thomas, Wilmgton jazz artist Jonathan Whitney and Chef Nery Burgos, owner of Breakfast at Blume in Wilmington.

Talks will be accessible on Youtube after the event. Through its history, TEDxWilmington talks have been some of the most watched on the TEDxTalks Youtube channel, including this 2022 talk from Mario Lanzarotti that has 1.8 million views:

It’s a pattern the TEDxWilmington team hopes continues with this year’s crop of speakers.

“Dan does this because he is very intent on bringing Delaware up to the level that we can, as far as being on the same stages as all these other people,” Antonov said.

The full-day Saturday event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will include lunch. Purchase tickets here.
