Workforce training and development nonprofit Philadelphia Works is launching PHL Career Portal, a free, virtual training and resource hub for folks who are job hunting.
PHL Career Portal will help with career exploration and job searching. The goal is to help applicants develop their resume and learn how to make their professional profile stand out to hiring managers.
Philadelphia Works will host a webinar introducing the portal and how to use it on Wednesday, May 19, at 11 a.m. Attendees will learn how to use the portal and understand the resources available. Register for the workshop here.
They will also learn about becoming a “skills forward” learner via The Philadelphia Skills Forward Initiative. Launched by Philadelphia Works, Accenture, the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia and Graduate! Philadelphia, the initiative aims to provide training and support that will enable job seekers in Philadelphia to make successful career transitions.
“To compete in today’s job market, building new skills is necessary,” Philadelphia Works said in a statement. “Now is the perfect time to grow professionally and learn new technologies.”
Nerd Street Gamers summer camps
This summer, esports company Nerd Street Gamers will offer in-person and virtual summer camps to local gamers and those across the country ages 9 to 17 through Camp Localhost.
Each day, campers will take part in off-screen and on-screen activities that focus on skills like team building, communication, leadership, critical thinking and healthy gaming habits. Campers will have access to age-appropriate games like Rocket League, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, VALORANT, Overwatch, and sports games like FIFA and NBA2K.
In Philadelphia, in-person camps will be held at the company’s East Falls location at 2800 Fox St. Campers don’t need any gaming experience to get started. Campers pay $149 per week, and registration for the summer sessions will happen on a rolling basis, a company spokesperson said.
