10 Inauguration Day messages from Philly institutions and entrepreneurs

The historic event had people across the country, and region, talking. Here's what they had to say.

Inauguration Day for now-President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris had the entire country talking, and Philly was no different.

We have an idea of what a Biden administration means for the region’s businesses, including those led by Black, Latinx and LGBTQ entrepreneurs. He’s laid out his policies and coronavirus relief plans. Today, though, most eyes were on the swearing-in ceremony itself.

Here are 10 messages across social media from local businesses, entrepreneurs and institutions about the 2021 presidential inauguration.

Philadelphia 76ers

Philly’s favorite NBA team shared a poignant message from head coach Doc Rivers about the importance of voting.

University of Pennsylvania

Penn professor David Eisenhower shared his insights on a historic inauguration via the university’s official Twitter account. Eisenhower is also grandson of former U.S. president Dwight Eisenhower.

Skai Blue Media

Led by entrepreneur and former TV producer Rakia Reynolds, Skai Blue posted an informative message about Harris.

Thesepinklips

Entrepreneur and visual artist Iris Bonner is the owner of these local fashion and art brand. She posted about Amanda Gorman, the 22-year-old poet who spoke during the inauguration and one of the day’s biggest stars.

Girls Auto Clinic

Upper Darby’s Girls Auto Clinic is owned by Patrice Banks, a Black woman, and shared a message about democracy on its Instagram.

American History Museum

For Inauguration Day, the museum posted a message about and picture of a button from the country’s very first inauguration in 1789.

Villanova University

The university tweeted a message celebrating Biden’s victory by saluting new First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, an alumna.

Temple University

Earlier this morning, Temple hosted a virtual Inauguration Watch Party for its students.

National Constitution Center

The nonprofit celebrated Inauguration Day with an archival photo from a past inauguration.

National Museum of American Jewish History

And NMAJH celebrated Biden’s victory by posting a photo from when he spoke at the museum in 2010.
