Livestreaming educational group StreamGeeks, a division of Downingtown-based tech company Haverford Systems Inc., will be heading to New York City next week to host a daylong conference about live streaming and its role in various industries.

StreamGeeks was started in 2017 with the goal of helping area businesses, nonprofits and folks in rising industries like esports to use livestreaming effectively. The group acts as a consultancy, teaching courses on platforms like Facebook Live and Twitch.

Hosts Paul Richards and Tess Protesto, along with producer and photographer Michael Luttermoser, make free streaming and graphics videos and will teach on topics like influencer marketing. Most companies have the resources to use and make video, but don’t necessarily know how to use it to their advantage yet, the hosts said.

“Essentially it’s about building a relationship with the audience on the other end [of the livestream],” Protesto said. “Video is used as a huge tool for marketing, so we’re using what you already have and just taking that a step further.”

Richards said that a lot of folks are still learning about livestreaming and don’t yet know how to use it in a business setting. It reminds him of early internet days where folks knew about the concept of SEO, but didn’t yet know how to use it to their advantage.

When livestreaming, “There’s no post-production and editing, so some people are scared to use it,” he said.

But the West Chester-based StreamGeeks team is looking to change that attitude and teach a wide range of people across industries at the group’s upcoming StreamGeeks Summit in NYC.

Folks can attend the conference in Manhattan on Nov. 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $295, but for those who can’t physically go, there’s still a few hundred tickets available to livestream the conference for free.

The summit will offer a mix of smaller workshops, panel discussions and a keynote speaker: Geoffrey Colon, head of the Microsoft Advertising Brand Studio.
