Super Meetup — the meta-Meetup experience for Philly’s tech, startup and entrepreneurial crowd — is a mere two weeks away.

For many attendees, this event is a chance to scope out and mingle with the best of the local tech scene all whilst sipping on some free beers (the best kind).

But for jobseekers, this mega-sized mixer is a can’t-miss networking opportunity chalk-full of companies on the prowl for new talent.

Here at Technical.ly, we find that networking, much like dating, goes best when you do a little prep work. No, not like shaving your legs, though that’s up to you. We’re talking about doing some light research on the companies you’re about to meet, so that you’re primed and ready to wow them with how applicable your skills and passions are to what they do.

Luckily for you, we’ve already gone ahead and done some of that leg work (again, not related to shaving).

Read on for the goods we dug up about five key companies hiring at this month’s Super Meetup event, and prepare yourself for networking domination.

HealthVerity

Collaboration thrives at this small, nimble company of 35 people, whose work enables the exchange of healthcare and consumer data in a way that has never been done before.

“At HealthVerity, you’re really on the cusp of something big,” said Marketing Director Abigail Stockwell. “We’re trying to change the way the healthcare industry has been run for years now…building a technology that is not only breaking down silos and increasing transparency, but making healthcare work better for the patient. We’re taking it to the next level.”

The organization — looking to fill 12 open positions — defies standard workplace hierarchies, and seeks employees who are comfortable wearing multiple hats, chipping in and working across divisions where needed.

With four products currently seeing high demand in the market, in part due to the newly enforced GDPR privacy laws, HealthVerity is especially interested in hiring software engineers who want to build innovative products and continually stay ahead of the curve in the healthcare industry.

Printfly

This Callowhill ecommerce platform creates custom-printed apparel and products, owning brands like RushOrderTees.com.

“We’re unique in that we own the entire value chain, from the creation of the website, to the custom printing technology platform, to the production of the finished product. We expect everyone to come in and live that mission of making it fast and easy for people to create custom goods,” said COO Robert Levin.

When hiring new employees, Printfly, which started as a print shop and grew into an ecommerce technology platform, places a strong emphasis on the idea of craftsmanship.

“There’s an element of craftsmanship weaved into everything we do,” said Levin. “We think it’s important for people to understand how to be a craftsperson no matter what role they’re working in — even if you’re a software developer.”

So, how does one know if they embody the essence of a craftsperson?

“You understand that your work is a direct representation of you,” he said. “You’ve created it. It’s your product. You’re resourceful, adaptable, detail-oriented and hands-on. You work where quality and speed intersect.

In terms of career openings, Printfly is actively looking for people on the digital marketing side of the business with experience in SEO, paid search and paid social. Additionally, it’s  always on the lookout for stellar software developers, both front- and back-end.

Linode

Despite being one of the largest, fastest cloud-hosting providers with almost half a million customers, Linode has still managed to create a flexible, healthy work/life balance for its employees.

“It’s a great place to work. There’s lots autonomy,” said Talent Acquisition Manager Keith Wilson. “People are doing their own thing, but everyone is well connected with the company’s vision and what its goals are. We position ourselves to be the best.”

It’s an exciting time to get on board at Linode. As the company continues to grow and develop new high-performance products, new roles are opening up that haven’t existed before — roles that will enable ambitious candidates to pioneer new initiatives and best practices.

Though the talent acquisition team can’t disclose exactly what those roles will be quite yet, they were able to tell us they were focusing on growing the IT side of the house, in areas that would allow them to remain ahead of the curve, such as engineering systems and networking security.

Hero Digital

Hero Digital is a B2B customer experience agency that designs and engineers websites, web applications, mobile apps and physical experiences for brands like Sephora and the annual Dreamforce conference.

“Our culture is very driven, but feels like family,” said Talent Acquisition Lead Toby Pool. “We really look to hire people who aren’t just good at UX or design, but who are really passionate about it. We want to know it’s not just a job to them.”

The inclusive, ego-free, open concept work environment engages employees in a variety of social initiatives, like sports teams and field days, but also takes talent and experience very seriously.

“The majority of roles have client-facing interactions,” said Pool. “We are looking for someone who presents their self in a polished, confident way, and who is comfortable talking to a client. We work for a lot of Fortune 500 companies, and are looking for people who have built things on that scale.”

Though regularly hiring for both contract and full-time employees, Pool said the current focus is on in-house project management roles, as well as making a push for front-end developers and “highly creative” UX/UI designers.

Ascensus

This national fintech firm, based in Dresher, Pa., uses technology to help Americans plan and save for retirement, college and healthcare.

The self-described “people-first” company lives and breathes its mission, not only helping customers invest in themselves, but helping its employees do the same. Its benefits plan includes contributions to a health savings account, over $5,000 in educational assistance annually, volunteer opportunities and a mentorship program.

Opportunities are overflowing at Ascensus, with a clear calling for engineers and other information technologists, followed by a slew of interesting roles in marketing, finance, operations and client services.
