With great regret, I’m here to announce that we’ve decided to retire the Philly Geek Awards. We will not be hosting the show this summer.
Simply put, it was a struggle to keep the event funded well enough to operate. For seven years, it was a volunteer effort that ultimately became unsustainable.
We were honored to run the Philly Geek Awards for seven magnificent years. It is heartwarming to know that the 300+ nominees in the show’s history will continue to make the city, and the world, a better and geekier place.
The Geek Awards was our love letter to Philly, we just didn’t realize it at first. We also didn’t realize the profound impact it would have on the Venn diagram of passionate creative communities in the Philadelphia area and beyond.
On behalf of the ensemble cast of organizers from 2011 to 2017, we’re so very grateful for your support and couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to all our attendees, presenters, nominees, award winners, venues and collaborators over the years.
Thank you most of all to the people of Philadelphia. To quote both Roman philosopher Seneca the Younger and American alternative rock band Semisonic, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
Stay geeks.
