Save all the kitties floating in the galaxy! It’s Galactikitties, the first game to come out of Drexel’s Entrepreneurial Game Studio.
It’s a mobile single-screen arcade game developed and designed by Drexel undergrad game shop Sweet Roll Studio, according to a Drexel release.
Buy it for $0.99 for iOS or Android.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. (Sweet Roll said they could not disclose what portion of the revenue will support the organization, due to the nature of their agreement with the ASPCA).
Drexel student Timothy Day, 21, originally developed Galactikitties as a project for a class taught by Dr. Frank Lee, founder of the Entrepreneurial Game Studio and the professor behind Tetris and Pong on the Cira Centre skyscraper.
Lee, who envisions Philadelphia as a mobile gaming hub, encouraged Day to keep working on the game once the class ended.
On Lee’s advice, Day changed the game from a side-scroller (like Super Mario) to a single screen game, according to the release. Side-scrollers take longer to build because of all the graphics needed to keep each level unique.
Day recruited Drexel students Travis Chandler, 21, and Jasmine Marciel, 20, to help him finish the game. Day and Chandler both did Drexel internships at Center City game shop Shenandoah Studio.
