iWatch: Howard County police first MD jurisdiction to have smart phone app for crime tips

Howard County police are now using apps to fight crime.
The Howard County police department announced Nov. 19 that it now employs the iWatch smart phone app, which allows people to “anonymously send crime tips by text, email, photo or video,” reports the Baltimore Sun.

Encrypted tips sent through the iWatch app are delivered to police anonymously, the release said. The only way a user can be identified is if they choose to provide their name to police. [more]

County executive Ken Ulman said the introduction of iWatch “demonstrates … how Howard County is on the cutting edge of technology,” according to the Sun.
Earlier this month, Ellicott City in Howard County became the first town in Maryland to install street-level sensors in its parking spaces for use with the Parker app.
