Philly-based digital health startup Atalan will soon use patient experience data to help healthcare systems reduce employee turnover.
The startup announced a partnership with Accrete Health Partners, the venture arm of Bon Secours Mercy Health in Ohio, to help develop a new tool for its healthcare data platform. Atalan PX, which aims to launch this year, will bring together information about both clinicians’ and patients’ experiences to prevent healthcare providers from quitting, founder and CEO Tiffany Chan told Technical.ly.
“You can pinpoint what are the areas they can focus on that would both benefit the patients and the clinicians themselves,” Chan said. “These tend to be more the operational work, environmental factors.”
Atalan’s platform uses machine learning, plus data from electronic health records and HR systems, to help healthcare organizations identify why clinicians may leave.
There are about 100 factors that contribute specifically to clinician burnout, Chan previously told Technical.ly. For each of them, Atalan recommends a workplace environmental change or a policy change to help reduce the risk.
One client, for example, embedded pharmacists in primary care clinics to alleviate the workload of primary care doctors.
The upcoming launch with Bon Secours Mercy Health — an early client of Atalan — is just the first step for the company as it expands its platform, Chan said.
The startup also plans to work with other health systems to compare commonalities and differences as it builds Atalan PX. The company has so far launched in fewer than 10 systems.
“We have to make sure that we’re not customizing just one platform for one health system,” Chan said, “but it’s applicable and usable and of value for all health systems.”
