Opportunity alert: Delaware Goes to College Academy seeking talented high-schoolers

In 2009, Tatiana Poladko and her husband Antre Alleyne started TeenSharp, an organization (with offices in both South Jersey and Wilmington) that helps youths of color prepare to attend the country’s best universities. Later this month, TeenSharp will partner with the Delaware Department of Education, Capital One and Arsht-Cannon Fund to launch Delaware Goes to College Academy.
To be eligible for Delaware Goes to College Academy, students must be entering either their junior or senior year in fall 2017 and have at least a 3.0 GPA.
Applicants must apply by July 20 (that’s today, so get to it!).

“This is a chance to help talented students with the extra support they need to seek out the higher education options that are available to them but they might not recognize or know how to pursue,” said Shana Payne, director of the Department of Education’s higher-ed office.
The free program, which includes both in-person and online elements, will help talented, low-income students gain admission into four-year colleges that are good academic matches, on the best financial terms.
“The Delaware Goes to College Academy is a very ambitious initiative motivated by our desire to see no student with high academic potential underachieve,” said Poladko. “We are prepared to work 24/7 to make sure that scholars receive the necessary supports for them to realize their academic goal and reach their potential.”
