In April, SEED SPOT introduced its first full-time cohort of social entrepreneurs in D.C.

In a couple of weeks, the nine startups will pitch at the accelerator’s demo day.

The July 13 event is putting social impact on the big stage where other stars have played before. It’s set to be held at the Warner Theatre, which was built in the 1920s.

SEED SPOT was founded in Arizona five years ago, but opened in D.C. this year. It’s already standing out in the local community. They hired Duane Rollins, formerly of 18F, as director of product and impact, and founder Kate Glantz as director of entrepreneur initiatives.

This group is its first full-time cohort. The startups include a bot that helps kids find books to read, and an initiative to increase diversity in candidates for public office.

There’s an opportunity to put D.C. on the map as a really amazing place for social innovators to come and receive support and accelerate their ideas,” CEO Courtney Klein told Technical.ly earlier this year.

For those who want to provide some feedback in a more intimate setting, the cohort will be at General Assembly tonight for its weekly Venture Thursdays. It starts at 5 p.m. RSVP here.
