Today, we’re announcing a new, large-scale, weekend-long unconference and hackathon event. In February, we’ll focus on new ideas in education, with a rare technology event with the School District of Philadelphia, through a partnership with the U.S. State Department. Meet Tech Camp Philadelphia: Education.

Technically Philly has often been a part of the active hackathon community here in Philadelphia, helping to organize events like Random Hacks of Kindness (where education projects often win) and BarCamp NewsInnovation.

For the first time, expanding the hackathon format to bring together the education innovation community, we’re focusing Philadelphia technologists on how learning gets done. And we’ve found major partners to push change, including the School District of Philadelphia itself, which educates 140,000 students, and the U.S. State Department, which uses the programming to take ideas around the world.

In partnership with the School District and the State Department, we’re proud to announce TechCamp Philadelphia: Education, which will take place the weekend of Feb. 23 and 24, 2013. We’ve also brought on Temple University’s Urban Apps & Maps as a big partner and we’re looking for more.

You can apply to attend HERE.

TechCamp Philadelphia: Education is a two-day conference hosted at the School District of Philadelphia’s Headquarters where leaders across Philadelphia’s education community will share the current challenges they are facing with peers and technologists and brainstorm and build technology solutions to address these challenges.

TechCamp is a wide-ranging event series that the State Department has held around the world. The education focus is Philadelphia’s. This will be the first time the event will be held in the United States.

TechCamp will create a tangible step forward in building an engaged network between K12 educators and civically-engaged technologists that care about education in Philadelphia.

Leaders in the District, in education-related nonprofits and startups and in related offices of government and policy will attend alongside Philadelphia’s talented technology community of developers, engineers, designers and more.

We’ve already begun curating an invitation-only RSVP list. Apply to attend HERE. If you’re interested in learning how to support this event, click here.
