This weekend, you can watch a pocket-sized light show while listening to a live orchestra — and all of it was built and performed by high school students.
Students at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and Boys Latin Charter School worked with Drexel University to develop a mobile app light show that changes with the music that will be performed by Play On, Philly!, a student orchestra, according to a release. The event, called Remix Interactive and part of the Philadelphia Science Festival, will be on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at World Café Live (3025 Walnut St.).
Get ticketsThe students worked with Drexel’s music and tech expert Youngmoo Kim and visited Drexel’s ExCITe Center App Lab to develop the app. Both schools have notable STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs: West Philly’s Boys Latin has a chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, while Chestnut Hill private school SCH Academy has a 13-year-old engineering and robotics program.
The collaboration is another way that local organizations are working with schools to push STEM education.
