On Monday, about a week after hosting its first-ever meetup not at Martin Luther King Jr. Library downtown, DC Tech Meetup organizers officially announced the venues that will play home to DCTM over the next months. So get used to hanging out at the historic Howard Theatre and, now, the Washington Post auditorium.
As we noted in a previous story, it wasn’t easy for DCTM to find a space to accommodate its hundreds of monthly attendees. The MLK Library has hosted DCTM since 2013. But the Meetup wasn’t always so giant.
“Similar to the startups we feature on our stage, we started without any clear idea of what the DC Tech Meetup might become,” founding organizer Zvi Band said in a statement. “We were surprised to get 100 people in a room for our first meetup, so it’s unfathomable that, 54 meetups later, we have an online community of 19,000 and pack the room with 700+ every month.”

Unfathomable, maybe, but true. And now DCTM will rotate between two venues suited to the #dctech giant it has become. The first meetup at the Post will take place April 17.
“While we are sad to leave MLK Library, we are excited about how moving to The Washington Post and The Howard Theatre will energize the community and allow this meetup to continue to serve as a beacon for tech innovation in DC,” Shana Glenzer, another organizer, said in a statement.
