#MILLSUMMIT is back. Here’s what you don’t want to miss

What to expect at 2021's hybrid edition of the professional development conference — and no, you don't need to be a millennial to attend.

It’s Millennial Summit time again, and this year’s mostly-virtual event has an almost-overwhelming schedule of panels, workshops and keynotes. The MillSummit app can be used to organize your days and set reminders for events you plan to catch.

If you’ve never attended a virtual event using an app, know that it’s actually much more user-friendly than navigating to different virtual rooms via Zoom. You can view panels, ask questions, network and — big perk — go back and watch the panels after they’ve happened, so if there are two can’t miss panels happening at the same time, you can still catch a recording of one. Last year, this feature allowed you to rewatch panels for a couple of weeks after the event.

Now that the full schedule is online, you can really dive in and plan your days. We won’t go into fine detail on every panel since you can read it on the MillSummit site, but here’s an abridged version of what to expect.

Monday, Aug. 2

After a welcome kickoff, the MILLSUMMIT cuts right to the chase with “How to Deal with Difficult People,” followed by “JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Be the Force – Conversations About Race (Leadership/Professional Development)” — or, if you need some self care, “Brain, Body, and Budgeting: Three B’s to Get Your Life Together.”

Is social media your thing? Check out “How it Took a Pandemic to put the ‘Social’ back into Social Media.” Or, if finances are more of a concern, see “Expect the Unexpected: Planning for Future You” or “Buy Right Feel Right” to learn about brands that put people and the planet above profit.

Order some lunch and learn about “The Power of Employee Resource Groups to Spur Corporate Change,” then take in Toni Lispey’s lunchtime keynote.

In the afternoon, there will be “The Funding Landscape in a Post-COVID Cultural Sector,” “How to Start a Startup with Just an Idea” and the first of a couple of parent-facing panels, “Lose the Profanity, Keep Your Sanity: Self Care for Parents.”

The day will wind down with a Keynote from Matt Higgins, an entrepreneur best known for his appearances as a guest shark on ABC’s Shark Tank.”

Tuesday, Aug. 3

After the daily welcome, learn “Five Strategies to Up Your Networking Game (Virtually, In-Person, Hybrid or However you are Connecting With People Right Now),” followed by “Connecting People to Purpose through Meaningful Mentoring Relationships.” For more parenting advice, check out “How to Raise an Anti-Racist Child” along with the still very timely “The Social Dilemma, How has COVID Affected your business, Pre, During, and Post COVID.”

Get some financial self care with “Creating Financial Wellness & Peace of Mind” or learn how to “Level Up Your Social Media Game” and “Sharpen up Your Soft Skills.”

Going into lunchtime, you can take part in a discussion on loss and grief, both personal and collective, with “The Monsters Under Your Bed are Real,” followed by “thought leader with a sense of hunor” Vu Le’s keynote.

In the afternoon, take on some social justice discussion with “Protest to Progress” and get some industry insights with “RestauratHER — Women Who Run the Hospitality Industry” before ending the day with Jaclyn DiGregorio’s motivational keynote.

Wednesday, Aug. 4 (hybrid!)

The final day kicks off with a Chris Bruce welcome followed by the panel “Strategic Impact, Investing to Enhance Communities” (moderated by Technical.ly’s Holly Quinn), followed by “Having nothing, to giving everything, From the Corner to the Boardroom: How to Build a Powerful Brand” and “Building Partnerships: Community Impact in the Cultural Sector.”

Before the day switches to hybrid, check out “Building High Impact Nonprofits of Color: Revisited” and “Gaming as a Business: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.”

At 1pm, Delaware’s own Jimmie Allen will deliver his keynote for both an in-person audience at CSC Station and streamed for the virtual viewership, and then will join the hybrid panel “Through the Creator’s Lens: Elevating Black Voices in Entertainment.”

Day three will end with a keynote from former Obama Administration Social Secretary Deesha Dyer — that is, unless you join the #MILLSUMMIT afterparty at that evening’s Wilmington Blue Rocks game.
