The U.S. government has a new education program for military veterans: Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC) helps eligible veterans enter the technology field by providing tuition for an approved technical training program, as well as housing assistance for the duration of schooling.

Zip Code Wilmington (ZCW), located at The Mill, is one of only six programs in the country approved to receive reimbursement under the VET TEC Pilot Program, and the only school located on the East Coast, according to ZCW.

VET TEC is a five-year pilot program for veterans who aren’t on active duty, qualify for VA education assistance under the GI Bill, have at least one day of unexpired GI Bill entitlement and are accepted into a program by a VA-approved training provider. The program focuses on computer software training, information science, programming, media application and data processing.

Before being accepted for VET TEC, ZCW offered a military scholarship and actively encouraged veterans to apply; in May, the school held an information session in Philadelphia featuring the Liberty USO, inviting service members and veterans to learn more about the program.

The other VET TEC-approved programs are Galvanize, Inc. in Seattle, Code Platoon in Chicago,
Detroit School for Digital Technology in Detroit and Skill Distillery in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
