Wilmington-based Carvertise, founded by University of Delaware alum Mac Nagaswami, has deployed advertisement-on-wheels for national clients like AAA and Blue Cross Blue Shield. But its most recent push is a public service campaign close to home: “Helping Delaware Work,” an initiative of the Delaware Department of Labor that will use Carvertise-wrapped cars to spread its message, while simultaneously paying local drivers for turning their cars into roaming billboards.
“The Department of Labor used to be known as the unemployment office,” said Cerron Cade, Delaware Secretary of Labor, at the unveiling of the cars at 1313 Innovation on Friday. “Today, it’s the employment office.”
Helping Delaware Work will look to spread the word on the employment services available from The DOL via DelawareWorks.com.
Cade stressed that the campaign with Carvertise is designed to benefit all those involved.
“We cannot only satisfy our purposes of connecting Delawareans with great opportunities, but we can also make sure that a great employer like Carvertise is strong and prepared for the future,” said Cade, who became head of the department in January.
McConnell Johnson Real Estate partner Paul McConnell, who launched 1313 Innovation in the Hercules Building property in 2014, also received praise from Cade for his part in changing the way things work in Delaware. “To be able to walk into a place and say ‘who’s got an idea for this?’ and several people raise their hands – I don’t know if you understand what a change that is from how we used to do things.”
Carvertise offers the opportunity for drivers to earn passive income (generally $100 a month) by getting their own car wrapped with a client’s marketing design. Cars must be a 2008 model or newer with a factory finish paint job. Qualified drivers must have a clean driving record and drive at least 30 miles a day.
