Well, that was quick.

Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court overturned a 1992 federal law that made sports betting in every state except Nevada. Next week, Delaware will be the first state to offer sports betting at all three of its casinos — Delaware ParkDover Downs and Harrington Raceway & Casino.

New Jersey challenged the law in December 2017. It will likely be the second state to offer legal sports gambling, with a bill anticipated to pass its legislature on June 7.

Delaware had no legal obstacles to starting full-scale sports betting in its casinos, the Delaware Department of Finance determined. A 2009 state law, which was overruled by the federal law until May 14, legalized betting on professional and collegiate sports, as long as they’re not Delaware-based teams.

At the casinos, folks will be able to bet on single-game and championship wagering on professional basketball, football, baseball, hockey, soccer, auto racing and golf.

Shawn Lindsey, founder of CappedSports.com, the Delaware-based “Facebook of Sports Betting,” predicted that Delaware casinos would have full-scale sports betting this year, but the June 5 launch is earlier than expected.

The official launch is 1:30 p.m. on June 5. Place yer bets.
