Timed to the launch of the state’s new Open Data Portal, Gov. Jack Markell kicked off his weekly video address by praising data transparency. No wonder he was named a tech-savvy governor.
“To be effective, government must be transparent,” he said. In the two-minute video Markell recaps his work with Delaware Checkbook, FIOA reform, Executive Order 57Open Data Council and finally, the Open Data Portal.
His hope is to provide “better access to government data,” he says, and he stressed that “it will only be effective if citizens understand what’s in it and how it works.”

Markell hopes the new portal will be a resource for entrepreneurs, researchers, data scientists and academic institutions.
