A quick peek at Zip Code Wilmington’s first day

The JavaScript gods smiled down upon 19 lucky students yesterday as they walked into 1105 N. Market St. in Wilmington to start a new chapter of their lives as part of Zip Code Wilmington’s pilot class.

The headquarters at 1105 N. Market are temporary for the newly-launched code school, founded earlier this year by venture capitalist Ben duPont, Epic Research CEO Jim Stewart and Brown Advisory partner Porter Schutt.

“We have 19 enrolled students from diverse backgrounds who were chosen from an initial applicant population of over 140,” wrote Stewart in an email to Zip Code Wilmington supporters. “The selection process was rigorous and we feel confident that we have a group who will strongly represent our first class.”

While the students have a rigorous and time-consuming 90 days ahead of them, Stewart said the first day consisted of ice-breakers and getting the students familiar with the “development environment.”
