WHO’S GETTING BUZZ

Raise.Me, an early-stage startup that helps high school students earn microscholarships for doing well in class, was recently featured on our sister site, Technical.ly Philly. Raise.Me has already partnered with the University of Delaware, as well as several local universities in Pennsylvania.

The Aster Center is in the running to win the Global Startup Battle “Do the Kind Thing” and “Women” tracks. The organization, which won Startup Battle: Delaware, is one of 20 organizations on the ballot. You can see all the finalists here.

Cybersecurity in Delaware was recently named the best in the nation, says The News Journal’s Robin Brown. Digitknow.delaware.gov, the state Department of Technology and Information’s site, won first place in 2014 “Best of the Web” state government competition.

The News Journal recently featured a story on retired Army Sergeant Keith Orr, who retired last year after 24 years of active duty. Just a week out of the ranks, William H. McMichael reports, Orr had his new Handyman Matters franchise up and running in Northern New Castle County. Now, 14 months, later, he’s got six employees who can make fixes in a home.

WHO’S GETTING FUNDED

Bid On Energy LLC is looking to raise $100,000, according to an SEC filing. Andrew Shoemaker is listed as the director, with a Lewes address. According to a recent announcement on PR Buzz, Bid on Energy is introducing a reverse auction and aggregation platform for businesses that lowers the cost of commercial electricity and natural gas. Reductions, PR Buzz reports, can be upwards of 35 percent for customers.
