Vote for this year’s DC Timmy Awards nominees before it’s too late

Voting for the seventh annual Timmy Awards, hosted by Tech in Motion, is now underway, and it’s the last weekend to give a nod to your DC faves.

The annual awards from national network for tech events Tech in Motion honor tech companies across the country. This year, Tech in Motion put out a call for nominations from each of its cities for Best Tech Startup, Best Tech Manager, Best Tech Work Culture, Best Tech for Good and Best Enterprise Tech Employer.

The awards select from companies in DC, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Toronto.

Tech in Motion’s Lindsay Lewis said that the organization decided to remove the category of Best Tech Workplace for Diversity this year because it should be built into culture across the board. She also noted the organization split up the workplace culture category into large and small companies to showcase some of the startups with good cultural practices.

Each category has different criteria, Lewis said, but many go beyond surface-level attributes. Lewis noted that workplace culture, its biggest category, is about more than perks.

“It’s looking for mission, a sense of community, how they inspire performance, how they reward contributions for every level and also how they build an environment that’s inclusive and diverse from the top down so that people can bring their authentic selves to work every day,” Lewis said.

Voting closes Monday, September 27, and the official awards ceremony will take place in October. Among this year’s nominees, DC-based FiscalNote and Aledade both took home regional prizes last year, as well.
