During a time when online schooling is becoming more of a norm, this recent ranking of accredited online programs may be more insightful this year than in the past.

A handful of local universities and colleges were ranked as the best online degree programs across the U.S. in the latest report published by media and analysis company U.S. News & World Report, based on data shared by the higher ed institutions.

Each online undergraduate and graduate degree program was assessed and scored across four categories, weighted like this:

  • Engagement — 35%
  • Services and tech — 25%
  • Faculty credentials and training — 20%
  • Expert opinions from surveys of high-ranking academic officials — 20%

  • George Washington University — #19
  • Regent University — #53
  • Old Dominion University — #86
  • Gallaudet University — #189

GW bumped up one spot compared to last year, while Gallaudet progressed by three. Notable nearby universities like Morgan State University and George Mason University went unranked on this year’s list.

Of the 105 schools ranked for best online engineering graduate degree programs, DMV institutions ranked as such:
