Georgetown-based Halcyon Incubator has announced the 14th cohort for its incubator for early-stage social impact entrepreneurs. The 18-month fellowship welcomes nine ventures, majority of which are minority-owned, to scale their business models.
This past fall, the incubator ramped up sanitation and social distancing at Halcyon House to ensure safety for the entrepreneurs during the residency portion of the program where they move in to hone in on the fellowship’s work. This cohort of fellows will spend the first five months of the program living at Halcyon House to be closer to advisors and mentors. The rent-free residency includes a $10,000 stipend for each company and will conclude with a demo day. Following the residency, the cohort will continue to have access to Halcyon’s network and guidance from experts for a year.
Here’s who made the latest cohort:
- Oliver Calma and Jose Angelo Calma, cofounders of BCRemit
- Lori Most, founder and CEO of BackpackEMR
- Kim Bryden, founder and CEO of Cureate
- Wesley Ma, founder and CEO of HealthOpX
- Casey Grage and Tyler Panian, cofounders of Hubly Surgical
- Mark Musiimenta Musinguzi and Dennis Ssekimpi, cofounders of Hya Bioplastics
- Erica Cole, founder and CEO of No Limbits
- Sunny Williams, founder and CEO of Tiny Docs
- Tsitsi Sifiyali and Integrity Mchechesi, cofounders of VaxiGlobal
This mission stands out as being especially relevant in 2021: Based in Zimbabwe, the founders behind VaxiGlobal manage a vaccination verification service for healthcare professionals who administer vaccines for travel or immigration purposes. The company creates a digital vaccination certificate that can be scanned at border control via a QR code. A system like this not only alleviates stress when traveling, but it further digitizes vaccination and medical records, a long standing issue in the U.S.
For descriptions of the rest of the ventures, check out Halcyon’s website. The incubator hasn’t yet announced the next cohort for its Arts Lab nor for its new incubator in partnership with Black Girl Ventures, so be on the lookout.
